Seeking a new Service Coordinator – join us and make a real difference to young people facing homelessness

Make a real difference to young people facing homelessness in Brighton and Hove.

Celebrating our 15th year of service, Sussex Nightstop is a community response to youth homelessness. Our volunteer hosts offer short-term stays for 16-25 year olds at risk of rough-sleeping providing both practical support and kindness at a point of crisis. The difference this makes to a young person is stark – every night with our hosts keeps them safe from the real dangers of rough-sleeping and over 80% of young people who stay with us go on to secure more suitable accommodation. Their experience of being with Nightstop can be profound:

“I have come such a long way since finding Sussex Nightstop. We have been on such an amazing journey together. I have had such a positive experience… I really enjoyed making them some nice food, they are all so amazing, they have hearts the size of the ocean!’’

Our Service Coordinator role is pivotal to this and we are looking to recruit an experienced individual who is committed to bringing about transformational change for young people, has the skills to place them at the centre of the experience and both understands and is able to meet our high quality standards of frontline and operational practice; effectively managing our young people referrals and volunteer programme with the initiative and eye for improvements that drive positive service developments, ensuring the best possible offer for our young guests and volunteers.

“The resilience and tenacity of the young people who stay at Sussex Nightstop is nothing short of amazing as is the kindness and brilliance of our volunteers. Working together so that young people have somewhere safe to stay in the long-term, and seeing those results, is a complete privilege and joy”. Sian, Sussex Nightstop Service Coordinator

The first point of contact, you’ll be appraising whether Nightstop is the right service for young people, making sure their needs are understood and met, matching them to volunteer hosts for overnight stays and working with them in a tailored way that facilitates positive housing and personal outcomes, working closely with colleagues from partner voluntary and statutory agencies to do so.

Likewise, you will be the person who recruits, trains, coordinates and supports our best asset – our volunteer team! As someone with volunteer management skills you’ll understand the unique quality of a volunteer-delivered service, the importance of a positive volunteering experience and the beneficial outcomes it can bring for volunteers themselves.

You’d be joining a small, committed, and good-humoured team who are welcoming and inclusive and we welcome applications from ALL members of our richly diverse, community. In particular, we note that in the last year, 60% of our guests who stayed with Sussex Nightstop were young people of colour and a staff team that reflects the diversity of the young people using our service has the greatest potential of meeting their needs and we warmly welcome applicants who can help us achieve that potential.

The role is being offered at 18.5 hours a week across Mon, Tues, Wed and is office-based within Brighton and Hove. For details see Service Coordinator JD below. The role requires an Enhanced Level DBS check
