The image is a mixed media artwork titled Bandstand Blues, depicting a serene seascape. The scene is composed of layered, cut paper or translucent materials in soft gradients to represent the sea, sand, and sky. The sky transitions from light blue near the horizon to a deeper blue at the top, with soft white clouds. The sea is illustrated in gently undulating bands of turquoise, blue, and green, mimicking the movement of waves. Two black silhouettes of birds fly over the water in the distance, adding a sense of calm and motion. The foreground features layers of sandy tones leading to a speckled, grey shoreline. In the lower right corner, there is a fine black line drawing of a Victorian-style bandstand, adding a touch of architectural detail and nostalgia to the natural scene. The combination of collage and illustration creates a harmonious and peaceful coastal composition.

Open house: Inside Number 9 Art Studio, 9 Barrowfield Drive, Hove, BN3 6TF

Artist Notes: With a background in art therapy and Tibetan thangka painting, Leslie creates silk appliqué images inspired by her time living and working in Tibet. She was privileged to help recreate lost heritage art for Tsurphu Monastery using traditional eastern Tibetan techniques with silk and brocade.

Today, Leslie continues this practice while exploring contemporary themes—ranging from environmental issues to layered abstracts—stretching the expressive potential of appliqué. Her work has been featured in both private collections and public spaces worldwide.
