Our 4th annual TRYathlon event took place on Thursday 28th August in Brighton with ten companies taking part at Yellowave Beach Volleyball and Haus of Cabaret, Brighton. This is not your usual triathlon for athletes who can swim, run and cycle…. instead it’s for everyone, including the not so sporty…. with a beach volleyball tournament, a quiz and a cake-off.
A huge thanks to Archangels Architects, Build my Home, Filby Builders, Mirkwood Evans Vincent, Miles Better Builds, Mortgage Medics, Orange Property, Responsible Travel and our sponsors: Daniel Associates, IMEX and TravelBeat for taking part.
Filby Builders’ brought two teams and they dominated the beach volleyball, coming first and second. Mirkwood Evans Vincent coming third.
Sam Murphy from Mortgage Medics took on the role of host this year, with Cherry Bomb co-hosting and entertaining our guests with unbeatable flair. Michael Cheetham was our official photographer and we’ll be posting his shots from Haus of Cabaret, Brighton when he’s back from a well earned holiday.
Archangels Architects were quiz leaders, but Mirkwood Evans Vincent stormed to victory, beating them and Mortgage Medics on stage in the final.
Cake-off glory went to Filby Builders, who have turned out incredible looking cakes in previous years, only to be beaten by a few points, making this a much deserved win. Our theme this year was a challenging one: safety. The teams rallied superbly, with wide ranging interpretations of the theme, chosen to reflect what our service provides, among many other things, to young people experiencing homelessness. A big thank you to our cake judges Amy and Francesca from Cloud 9, for ranking the finalists.
Archangels Architects were crowned overall winners in what had become an incredibly close competition, proving that high scores in each event is the way to go. Mirkwood Evans Vincent came second overall and newcomers Responsible Travel came third, pipping Filby Builders and Mortgage Medics to the post by a hair’s width!
This event is always a lot of fun and the teams – many of whom have supported this event since its inception – are what make for such a great atmosphere. It’s also an important fundraiser for us and we’re grateful to everyone who took part, for helping us raise over £4,000 for our work ensuring that young people experiencing homelessness can sleep safely.
A final thank you to the brilliant businesses who donated raffle prizes, including Badger Clothing, Brighton Dome, Brighton Gin, Hive HR, Mortgage Medics, Pruden & Smith and the Theatre Royal.
