Medium: Reduction linocut handprinted
Size: Print: 198x286mm; Paper: approx. 210x297mm (UK A4 size); framed
Artist: Bimbi Urquhart
Artist Notes: "Stronger" embodies the essence of Kintsugi, the Japanese art of "golden repair" - way of repairing broken pottery using gold. I wanted to create a portrait based on this same idea, about how the things that break us can make us stronger than before, once we have healed. I also love the philosophy of celebrating our flaws, highlighting our vulnerabilities instead of hiding them.
This multi-colour reduction linocut print on white paper showcases hand-printed purple and black caligo ink, hand-finished in gold on smooth, acid-free white paper (130gsm). The reduction process involves meticulously cutting the lino, followed by printing and drying the ink before repeating the cycle with each new colour.
